Bombardier to provide the London Crossrail Service, which will connect Maidenhead and Heathrow Airport in the west, to Abbey Wood and Shenfield in the east and is expected to open in 2018. The Canadian company has won the £1bln contract for the London Crossrail train order. Canada’s Bombardier beat Japan’s Hitachi and Spain’s CAF to secure the deal.
The order consists of 65 new trains constructed in Derby Bombardier’s site, and a new maintenance depot in Old Oak Common. Up to 340 new jobs will be created and about 74% of the amount spent on the contract would stay in the UK economy, a big boost for UK’s small and medium enterprises.
